Pantry Organizing

I recently organized a home that had a closet next to the kitchen, but it wasn't being used for the kitchen, instead, it was filled with utility items, and pet supplies. The family was struggling with full cupboards and food items and ingredients spread across several cabinets. to find what they needed when it was time to make a meal. The pantry is one of the most important spaces in your kitchen, as it houses all of your dry goods and non-perishable items. For this family, we transformed that closet into a functional pantry where they could see everything they had and create an inventory of ingredients before they went shopping or when they were ready to make a meal. Here are some tips for organizing your pantry:

  1. Take everything out of the pantry: Start by emptying your pantry and taking inventory of what you have.
  2. Wipe down all surfaces, like shelves or bins.
  3. Group similar items together: Sort your items into categories such as grains, cereals, snacks, baking ingredients, etc.
  4. Use containers and labels: Invest in clear containers and labels to store your items. This not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but it also makes it easier to find what you need.
  5. Utilize vertical space: Use shelves or hanging organizers to create more storage space.

Freezer and Refrigerator Organizing

The freezer and refrigerator are two areas that can easily become cluttered and disorganized. Here are some tips for organizing these spaces:

  1. Check expiration dates: Go through your items and discard anything that is expired or no longer safe to eat.
  2. Group similar items together: Sort your items into categories such as meats, vegetables, fruits, etc.
  3. Use containers and labels: Invest in clear containers and labels to store your items. This not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but it also makes it easier to find what you need.
  4. Utilize door and drawer space: Use door and drawer organizers to create more storage space and keep your items easily accessible.
I wrote a more detailed post that goes into a little more detail about how you can organize a deep freezer.
